The Salvadoran goalkeeper, Tomás Romero, who was not called to the Gold Cup 2025, had a great premiere in the New York City FC by MLS
The Salvadoran footballer and goalkeeper Tomás Liam Romero had a completely dream debut in the Major League Soccer 2025 during last Thursday.
The goalkeeper Cuscatleco, who has been several times nationally selected, played his first official match with the New York City Football Club in that contest against Atlanta United.
Romero had an outstanding night where he made three saves and became the youngest goalkeeper in the club's history to keep his fence undefeated.
He is also the first goalkeeper in the history of NY City FC to leave his door to zero no less than in his first match for that tournament.
Romero was not called to the Gold Cup to integrate the select because his actions remained, until before this week, essentially in the MLS Next Pro, the MLS Reserve League.
The Salvadoran had to wait 18 months after signing to be considered as a holder at the New York City, the FIFA date made this possible.
And is that his main “rival” and teammate in the arch, Matt Freese, was summoned to the national team. That opened a quick door to Romero to protect the fence.

The ownership of Tomás Romero did not go unnoticed by New York City FC fans, so much that one even predicted a difficult party thanks to the inclusion of the Salvadoran:

And what a surprise was taken, in the end Romero had an excellent night and the New York City did not see goal in his own goal.
