They always say that the student surpasses maestro. But in him soccermany great teachers have not had who surpasses them. For their knowledge, for their ways of being, for what they have delivered, so they left as a legacy. In history, Salvadoran football technicians have marked many generations, not only by training players, but also as people, and over the years their teachings are still alive and being replicated by others.
And it is that in that select group of DTS unique characters and of great national value have passed. Figures such as Gregorio Bundio, Hernán Carrasco Vivanco, Conrado Miranda, Juan Quartarone, from an old school of practical “brains” and advanced in their knowledge for the time, are part of those unable historical names and that left a mark that is still alive.
Luxury of “teachers”
In current times, talking about Don “Goyo” Bundio and Don Hernán Carrasco is public knowledge and admiration. His years of delivery in local football were not in vain. And they are two characters that managed to transcend in football.
They have points in common: they are South American and directed the select on the road and in the 1970 World Cup itself, the first of that.
Bundio, of Argentine origin, founded the so -called “Baby Soccer”, which managed to exist the first national young players with foundations. He was a Technician of the National Team (1968-1970) and achieved, with his intelligence, to classify the country to his first World Cup: Mexico 1970. However, he did not directed it in the World Cup.
In that transition, Chilean Carrasco Vivanco arrived, who died of 100 years and of them were in the country, leaving countless achievements: selection, first division, and his academy (youth). It had two stages in the biggest blue, the most mentioned was to direct directly to the team in the '70 World Cup.
Among the highlight that gave the country, it was to be a pioneer in bringing innovative tactical ideas that caused a sensation, especially in FC alliance, which gave local and regional titles (Concacaf). But he was also champion with Atlético Marte and CD Águila. His legacy was to form youth that transcended, with great patience, with his way of being, and with wisdom.
A SCHOOL IN ADVANCE
Just as Carrasco Vivanco was a Physical Education professor, in addition to being a teacher in football, with the passing of the years, the national scintigons, as well as several players, decided to professionalize themselves as teachers.
One of them is Edwin “Bochinche” Portillo, a DT and “teacher” of Physics, who gave seven champion titles to Isidro Metapán, in First. While another who has also dedicated himself to teaching, to debuting players, to form now with his academy is Ramón Sánchez, committed to projects to grow young local players.
Both have more than 30 years of career, something that is not easy, with players today in the Major League (LMF) to those who made debut as Marvin Monterroza, Milton Molina, the brothers Darwin and Óscar Cerén, and several generations that have passed under their command at the highest level.
“For me, God wanted it to be: being a teacher and technical. The satisfactions in the end are huge. And debut players mark him. Just as I learned from Professor Conrado Miranda and Don Hernán,” said “Bochinche” Portillo.
For his part, Sánchez said: “I have met so many players for this beautiful sport that is football and I have seen all kinds of young people, with great aspirations and few opportunities. I thank God to be part of many teams and young people to open the door, that this is a great satisfaction, and more to make them debut in first.”
Without anything in the future?
As well as Timoneles who have already died, such as Bundio and Carrasco Vivanco (both QDDG), and left without “anything”, without a pension, without financial support, the current panorama already also remains the same for the current DTS around its economic retirement.
If the technicians only dedicate themselves to that, they will also go empty. This is why some, especially new eras players, are dedicated to looking for some simultaneous job, to study other careers, to achieve a retirement with a future that accompanies them, especially if they have families.
Both Portillo and Sánchez agreed that “there is nothing in the future” and that “it is sad to know that the panorama does not change, because there is no pension for this (being DT).”
At this point, Miguel Anaya, a sports lawyer, explains that “soccer coaches only have a contract for professional services, which does not force the employer, in this case to the board of directors of the teams, to provide the technician with the benefits of Social Security and AFP, because they do not enjoy the 40 hours per week required by the Labor Code.” The DTS have less schedule of a normal working day and do not have a superior chief to control them, so it is difficult for them to have that desired pension.
“This is the reason why coaches in the country do not have the benefits already when they retire or retire, because they are under the professional services contract. They are hired for a year or when the opening ended, which are for six months (as FIFA establishes). They are only for established, fixed deadlines, to be able to hire them,” he said.
Anaya was clear at this point: “In my opinion, it is a debt that has football, not only in coaches, also in players. When they finish their useful life in football, then they work on whatever, some even ask, because they do not have a pension.”
“All this situation should be regulated, but remember that the existence of the teams are transitory (some disappear), with the exception of some historical ones, so they are contracts for professional services with a established period of a sports year or six months (they do not last 30 years as a job), and the coaches do not have any benefits or benefits at the end of their retirement,” he complemented.
For Jaime Solís, expert lawyer in Labor Law and Partner of BDS Advisors, a member of the Global Littler International Network, the practice of hiring coaches through “professional services” contracts constitutes a violation not only for circular 1171 of the statutes of FIFA players – also applied to coaches in accordance with the principle of functional analogy – but also to the current Salvadoran labor regulations.
And it is that “article 17 of the Labor Code makes it clear. Although in the contract signing it is called how they want to put it (professional services), it is a working relationship by a presumption of law. It is called the principle of the primacy of reality that, in summary, what it means is that it does not matter what they put in the contract, but what happens in reality.
